Salt & food cost comparison
Compare salts by what a gallon of mixed saltwater costs, not by bucket price. The prices are a dated snapshot from retailer pages, so type in your local price. Yields are the manufacturer's "makes X gallons" ratings, with a link to each source.
| Salt mix | Price ($) | Rated gallons | $/gal | $/mo |

Rated yield assumes the maker's target salinity. Real yield varies with salinity and moisture. For example, BRS mixed a 55 lb Tropic Marin Pro-Reef bucket to about 170 gal at 35 ppt (BRS). Prices change often: check them before you buy. Buy links will be added here (affiliate placeholders).
Food cost per ounce and per month
Enter the foods you use, with the price and net weight from the label. We don't pre-fill food prices because there's no consistent public data to use.
